You Wouldn’t Cry

tranquilityI am a superstar…at least in my own mind. When I am in my car, the shower, or on a leisurely stroll, I give mini concerts for an imaginary audience. There are throngs of people in heightened states of frenzy because of my melodic tones and master artistry. Sometimes my husband, daughter, or my doggies are my real audience but with slightly lower states of frenzy.

Early last week, I was giving one of my “concerts” in the car. The song was, “You Wouldn’t Cry” from Mandisa’s album, “Freedom.” I hit the back button for that track to play again–I start the songs over more than once to get it right. This time I decided to listen to the lyrics, really listen. The strong struck me as I realized it was from the perspective of someone who had passed away and was trying to comfort those left behind.

In light of the recent passing of Michael Jackson and the circumstances surrounding his death and life, the song has a particular resonance. Most of us will never know what it was like to reach such grand heights of fame and fortune while seemingly tortured by so much inside and out. Listen to “You Wouldn’t Cry” and read the lyrics below. I will always remember his music and dancing. As life goes on for the living with all its complicated twists and turns, at least he is resting now.

YOU WOULDN’T CRY (ANDREW’S SONG) Lyrics

Mandisa

All you saw was pain

All you saw was rain

But you should see me now

Moments filled with tears

Lasted all those years

Disappeared some how

You never said goodbye

On your knees you cry

You’re still asking why

But blue has never been bluer

True has never been truer

Honey never tasted so sweet

There’s a song in the breeze

A million voices in praise

A rose has never smelled redder

The sun has never been brighter

If I could find the right words to say

If you could look at my face

If you could just see this place

You wouldn’t cry for me today

What you think you see

Isn’t really me

I’m already home

You’ve got to lay it down

‘Cause Jesus holds me now

And I am not alone

Your faith is wearing thin

But I am watching Him

And He is holding you too

And blue has never been bluer

True has never been truer

Honey never tasted so sweet

There’s a song in the breeze

A million voices in praise

A rose has never smelled redder

The sun has never been brighter

If I could find the right words to say

If you could look at my face

If you could just see this place

You wouldn’t cry for me today

You wouldn’t cry for me today

Oh what may seem like years

Will just be a moment

Oh the day will come

When I’ll show you where you’re going

I can’t wait to show you

And blue has never been bluer

True has never been truer

Honey never tasted so sweet

There’s a song in the breeze

A million voices in praise

A rose has never smelled redder

The sun has never been brighter

If I could find the right words to say

If you could look at my face

If you could just see this place

You wouldn’t cry for me today

You wouldn’t cry for me today

You wouldn’t cry for me today

You wouldn’t cry for me today

You wouldn’t cry for me today
