Either Timothy Geithner needs to withdraw or be voted down as the President Obama’s choice for Treasury Secretary. With all his extraordinary skills and experience, how could he have failed to pay his personal payroll taxes while working at the International Monetary Fund. (He has since paid them.) I agree with Senator John Kyl of Arizona and his assessment that this was “implausible”. Is there no one else qualified for this job? James Fallows makes could points about this in his blog post. I’ve read that given the current state of our economy, Geithner’s transgressions should be overlooked. I think the opposite is true. Because of the dire straits this economy is in, the situation calls for someone who has shown due diligence professionally and personally. Geithner does not fit the bill.
He has been confirmed, though.
